YI TIAO GEN (Glycine tomentella Hayata) is a unique species of herbal plant only found natively on the island of Kinmen. It has a long straight main root thick as a finger and grows straight down for as deep as fifty centimeters. Due to its peculiar appearance and characteristics, the locals call it “Yi Tiao Gen” (literally One Root) or “Qian Jin Ba” (literally takes a ton of force to pull out from the ground). Yi Tiao Gen takes about three years to mature and harvest, and has long been considered by the locals as a heavenly gift from the gods with natural health and healing abilities.
Due to Kinmen’s unique natural environment, including geographical, soil, water quality, and climate, Yi Tiao Gen found at Kinmen is the best in the world and it is often said that Kinmen Yi Tiao Gen is far superior to Korean Ginseng.
According to traditional medical pharmacopoeia, Yi Tiao Gen’s acrid and warm characteristic is highly effective for eliminating acidity from the body, relieving rigidity of muscles, promoting blood circulation, and has been used as treatment for rheumatism, stiff muscles, sprains, sports injuries, and can strengthen the physiques. Other uses include postpartum colds, sore throat, liver, kidney, spleen, and stomach diseases. It is an extremely precious and valuable herb due to the limited production, so sometimes it’s also called “Kinmen Ginseng”.
